Review:
When I received the email about this blog tour I was very excited, as I always am when I get a blog tour email that involves a YA novel or series. Don't get me wrong, I give every email a fair glance, but YA are the ones that I usually jump on pretty quickly. Fantasy is not a genre that I read too often, so I was excited to give this one a shot. It sounded like it would be pretty interesting, and that was all of the convincing that I needed to sign up. Since the blog tour is to promote the book series (or the books that are currently out of it), I received ebook copies of both of the books, which is great because I am usually dying to read the second book in the series once I have read and finished the first one.
I am going to be honest, when I start a series, usually the first book in the series becomes and remains my favorite, even as I read the books that follow it. Now, I definitely read all of the other books in the series, and usually enjoy them very much, there is just something about that first book. I guess a lot of it has to do with the fact that book one introduces us to almost everything we need to know, and I really love to read the world building that often comes along with series. This series was no different, either. Milillo did a wonderful job with this series, and I was hooked by the beginning of book one. It would be impossible not to like Amanda, at least in my opinion. She seems to be a really well-rounded character at the beginning. Nice girl, great grades, and a couple of really good, solid friendships. She is a character that you know you will cheer for, and then everything in her life suddenly changes in an instant.
I do believe that this is the first book(s) that I have read that has had to do with demons and angels, and I was very intrigued by the whole thing. While sometimes with fantasy I think "Yeah right, even if it is fiction, this is completely unbelievable." I never felt that way with the Immortal Sin series, though. Milillo did a great job of explaining things in a way that made them seem like they could be completely possible, even if it is all fiction. I think that is a wonderful sign of fantasy. I do not want to give too much away, as I believe that this is a series that everyone should read, and I think that everyone should get to experience all of the awesome details and events of these books personally, but I STRONGLY recommend that everyone pick up these books. There is fantasy, love, suspense, plenty of action and darkness, understanding and loving family, and so much more. I honestly cannot wait to read the third and final book in the series.
