Vortex series by Janine Caldwell
Genres: Time-Travel, Young Adult
Synopsis book 1 - Rematch:
Trent Astor is many things—orphan, runaway, musician. But what’s most extraordinary about Trent is that he’s a time traveler. His supernatural gift sends him on missions to the past to save unsuspecting victims from harm. However, when he fails to save the life of a young girl, his life changes in ways he could never have dreamed.
At eleven-years-old, Cassie Moore suffered through a horrific shooting. Tragically scarred from the ordeal, the once promising tennis prodigy was forced to throw away all hope of a future in tennis. Now, as she begins her senior year of high school, the past continues to haunt her. She struggles to find herself, her self-esteem at an all time low. If only she could resolve the past, she might be able to move on with her life. She never imagined that could be possible until she meets the gorgeous new student in her PE class.
Synopsis book 2 - Double Fault:
DOUBLE
FAULT is the 2nd book in The Vortex Series where Cassie and Trent’s
problems have only just begun. As they fight through the repercussions
of creating a parallel world, other dangers are lurking. After years of
running, Trent and his orphaned sister, Lorelai, sense the dangerous and
power-hungry Dr. Fox is close to discovering their whereabouts.
While Cassie fears for Trent’s life, her tennis career hangs in the balance. Caught between her old and new life, she watches her world slowly crumble until it’s a tragic portrayal of all that she used to know. But worse yet, if her secret is revealed, she might lose what’s most dear to her heart.

In an instant
everything changes for seventeen-year-old Cassie Moore. Together she and
her time-traveling boyfriend, Trent Astor, battle to survive their next
impossible challenge. As they navigate through a third parallel world
in which Cassie begged Trent to create for her, the two soon discover
that no world can be made perfect.
And while they fight through their new circumstances, the universe may just have its own agenda for them both.
Meanwhile, it seems Trent and his sister, Lorelai, will never be safe from the greedy world and its hunger for Trent's power. A new force threatens to destroy the anonymity Trent has fought for his entire life unless he can stop this new opposition first. But every choice has a consequence, and Trent is faced with the most difficult choice of his life.
Set in contemporary Northern California, The Vortex Series is a teen romance for those who also enjoy a bit of science fiction and fantasy. Told in two perspectives, we get an intimate view of both Cassie and Trent’s worlds. Family relationships, how they interconnect and drive our personalities, is the heart and soul of this YA time traveling novel.

Review: I was thrilled when I came across another book, or series in this case, that has to do with time travel. I read another book earlier this year that involved the concept, and it has been one of my favorite books so far this year. Honestly, that was enough to make me want to read this series. When I received the email about the blog tour, I could not help but to be excited about it. I had not read any of the series yet, so I received all three as ebooks so I could get caught up and then read the final book int he trilogy, Deuce. Honestly, I had high hopes for this series so I was a bit worried it would not live up to my expectations. I was proved wrong once again, though. These books were amazing, and I did not want to put them down.
Now, I do not want to give too much away, especially since this blog tour is for the last book in the series and a lot of people probably have not read the first book yet. I had being spoiled, so I do not want to do the same thing to anyone else. However, I can assure you that these books are full of action and drama (the good kind of drama, not the annoying kind...you all know what I'm talking about, and the differences between the two!). I guess just from reading the synopsis you can probably understand just how much the main characters go through. Each book is like a new adventure, and when I finished reading one I could not wait to dive into the next.
I really enjoyed the main character, Cassie. At first she was incredibly withdrawn and obviously affected by something that happened to her when she is younger. It has taken quite the toll on her and kept her from doing things that she used to love. Enter Trent; he is charming and wonderful, and is great for Cassie. Sure, sometimes I'm a little skeptical about feelings seeming so strong between characters when they are young, but I think that it worked really well here. Caldwell did a wonderful job of creating interesting, developed characters. Along with that, the whole plot and worlds they are involved in are well developed, too. Caldwell did a wonderful job of writing the series.
Ultimately, I am happy with the way the series ended. It is always difficult, falling in love with characters and getting three books with them, and then having it end so suddenly. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a book hangover when I was done. They were THAT good. I would certainly recommend this series to any YA fantasy fans.

wow! this is one of my favorite authors, thanks for the chance to win this awesome series :D
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, books that are full of drama can be really annoying sometimes, especially the ones that are unrealistic! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this series. ^_^
