Top Ten Books About Friendship

It's Top Ten Tuesday time! I am linking up for the meme over at The Broke and the Bookish again this week. This week is all about books that are about friendship. I actually really love this prompt, too. There are so many books that have to do with friendship, that have great friends at the center despite other things that are happening. Here are my top ten favorite books that are about friendship.

As this week is all about friendship, I decided to ask my two closest friends (who also happen to be coworkers) what books they would pick, and each of them chose three to include in these weeks meme. (I appreciate the help, sometimes ten books is a lot to decide on my own!) I hope you enjoy hearing what book friendships they love!

Danielle - is awesome, just so you know. She teaches reading, as I do, and she is very good at what she does (though she would love to go back to teaching social studies). She loves books as well, and reads a lot more historical fiction, nonfiction, and classics than I do. I plan to work on it, though! She is also quite crafty, and makes some awesome needlepoint things! The three books she decided on are:

1. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
2. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
3. Notes from the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick - Danielle actually bored this one off of my bookshelf at work...I have yet to read it. She told me that I should read my own book, and she is definitely correct!

Brenda - is awesome as well, you guessed it. She teaches honors math, and can do math way better than I could ever think of doing. (I hate math. So. Much.) She is super nerdy just like Danielle and I, and she makes awesome custom Pop! figures that people pay her quite a bit of money for. Needless to say, she is a fan of books as well. The three books she decided on are:

4. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - "Friendship between Parzival and Aech. They meet online and are best friends. Even when there is a competition to find Halliday's egg and complete the gates they remain friends even though they both want to win without the others' help. They don't even know what each other looks like in real life."
6. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

My Choices - My choices are really based on the friendships that I have fallen in love with in books. Sometimes they are not the main focus in the book, or the top plot point, but it is still something that I had strong feelings about. To me, that is what makes friendship in a book. It should not HAVE to be about friendship to make it true, the friends should just be there when things get difficult.

7. The Fault in our Stars by John Green - My focus here is not on Gus and Hazel, but on Gus and Isaac. It is clear that their friendship has been long standing before we begin seeing the story between Hazel and Gus. Even through the book they are there for one another through everything. While the book is about two kids with cancer falling in love, I do not think that the true friendship there can be ignored.
8. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - There are so many occurrences of friendship within this book that it is far too difficult to just pick one. Rudy, though. Rudy. I just love how he keeps trying to get a kiss throughout the entirety of the book. I just loved this book in general, though.
9. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - While these other books are not ABOUT friendship, this one certainly is. It shows just how much you need good, supportive friends in order to get through the most difficult parts of life. The characters in this book are such misfits, and so loveable, and they obviously care so much about one another.

AND....last, but certainly not least:

10. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling - Yup, you should have seen this one coming. The ultimate book friendship (at least in my opinion). Where would I be without the friendship that is Harry, Ron, and Hermione? I don't know, and I don't want to know! Their friendship was real, raw, and strong through the whole series, and they would not have gotten through everything they had without one another.

There we have it! What books are on your list?
