March TBR

I can't believe that February is already over and we are into a completely new month. Again, I meant to have my TBR post up much earlier, but time got away from me. I have agreed to be a cheer sponsor at my school next year, and it's tryout weeks which means we had workshops everyday after school. Add that to bad winter weather, and I have not had much time to do anything lately. Still, despite the bad weather and staying with my parents because they live in the same town as my school, I did want to try to get my TBR post up today. I would also like to be better about actually reading the books on my TBR this month. But we shall see!

In February I read 6 of the 12 books that I put in my TBR post, which is pretty good I suppose since I failed so miserably at it in January. Reading half the books seems to be pretty good odds, especially since 6 of the 9 books I read in the month came from my TBR list. Progress! I do plan to get a lot of reading done this month with Spring Break being next week, and hopefully I accomplish that.

Now, when talking about my TBR, I mostly just have some books that I really want to read this month, but I also have a lot of newer releases that focus on suicide, so I thought that I might put them all together and try to read them in the same month (this could end up being a very good or very bad idea). Of course, I plan to read other books in between. And by that, I mean happier books or books of a genre outside of contemporary. I also need to focus on some of my challenges a bit more. Anyway, enough talking! Here is my March TBR.

1. I Was Here by Gayle Forman  | 2015 YA Contemporary Challenge
2. The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand | 2015 YA Contemporary Challenge
3. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven | 2015 YA Contemporary Challenge

 4. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins | 2015 TBR Challenge
5. My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga | 2015 YA Contemporary Challenge
6. When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez | 2015 YA Contemporary Challenge

 7. Uncross the Stars by Janell Rhiannon | For Review
8. Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau | Finish That Series Challenge
9. Graduation Day by Joelle Charbonneau | Finish That Series Challenge

 10. Bunheads by Sophie Flack | A-Z Challenge

What do you plan to read in March?

February TBR

I meant to have this posted a few days earlier (since we're now seven days into February, oops!), but time got away from me and things have been fairly busy. Still, better late than never, right? I did film a TBR video for my booktube channel (which you can find here), but I also wanted to do a separate post here as I did in January. I thought it might be fun to keep these up throughout the year. Maybe if I post them it will help me stick to them...though that was not correct in January.

In January I read 2 of the 12 books that I put in my TBR post, which really is not very good odds at all. I wanted to do so much better than that, but I was still in a bit of a serious reading slump, so I did not read as much as I had hoped to in general. However, I seem to finally be out of that slump (hopefully it will stay that way for awhile), and I'm already on my fourth book of February. Woohoo! This month I hope to stick to my TBR a bit better, so here is what I hope to read this month!

1. 21 Proms by MANY authors | Read - Review coming soon
2. Eleven Weeks by Lauren K. McKellar | Read - Blog tour/review
3. The Last Order by Angela M Caldwell | Read - Blog tour/review

4. Some Boys by Patty Blount | Currently Reading
5. The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark | Recent Release
6. There Will Be Lies by Nick Lake | Monthly Keyword Challenge - "Lies"

7. Love, Lucy by April Lindner | Recent Release
8. Cress by Marissa Meyer | Finish That Series Challenge
9. Fairest by Marissa Meyer | Finish That Series Challenge

10. How (Not) To Fall in Love by Lisa Brown Roberts | For Blog Tour
11. One of the Guys by Lisa Aldin | Netgalley
12. How to Unbreakup by Rebekah L. Purdy | For Blog Tour

There we have it, the books that I really hope to read in February. I will be very pleased if I can get through all of them, and it really is my goal to do so. So far I am pretty much on track, so I hope that I can continue that. I am aiming to read at least ten books this month to make up for the small number of seven that I read last month.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for a VERY EXCITING POST! (It will include a great giveaway as well...something about my One Year Blogoversary! hint hint.)

January TBR

This is something that I decided I was going to add to the blog this year, as I do hope that it will help me keep my reading going, since I fell into a pretty serious slump towards the end of 2014. I tried a couple of TBRs last year, but never really put much effort into them. I want to change that this year and try to stick to a TBR monthly. Sure, sometimes I might pick up something different because what I picked doesn't sound good, but I will take that as it comes.

Along with just picking books that I want to read, I will also be doing some monthly buddy reads with my friend Sarah (WordsWithSarah), and will be using a randomizer to pick some books off of my shelves. With that, I will also put some focus on my challenges for 2015, and will choose some of my books each month from that list as well. Below, as I list the books, I will also include if they count as one or more of my challenges as well. So, here is my January TBR!

Cress by Marissa Meyer - Finish that Series Challenge
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch - Buddy Read with Sarah (also, Sara Raasch is going to be my first author interviewed for my new Author Spotlight monthly post I have decided to do, get excited!)
Top Ten Clues You're Clueless by Liz Czukas - Buddy Read with Sarah (December release - I will share more about how Sarah and I are selecting our books soon!)

Uncross the Stars by Janell Rhiannon - Janell was amazing and asked if I would like to read and review her book, so once the paperback arrives I intend to read it this month.
The Number 7 by Jessica Lidh - from Merit Press, I really want to stay on top of the books I'm sent for review this year.
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas - Monthly keyword challenge & picked from the TBR randomizer

Bumped by Megan McCafferty - Finish that Series Challenge
Thumped by Megan McCafferty - Finish that Series Challenge
The List by Siobhan Vivian - TBR randomizer

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven - New Release on pre-order
There Will be Lies by Nick Lane - New Release on pre-order
The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall - New Release on pre-order

Summer TBR

Happy summer y'all! (Yup, I'm from Texas, and we say y'all) I realize that summer technically officially began a couple of days ago, but better late than never! As of right now, I am not too thrilled with my summer reading habits. I have been way too lazy, and watching way too much television. Last week was busy for me, so I completely failed at the #bookstagramathon read-athon on Instagram, reading a total of zero books. I'm going to try again with the #alltheunreadbooks read-athon, though. I have until July 5 to read as much as possible, so I am more confident!

Anywho, my friend Sarah (Words With Sarah) and I decided it would be fun to give each other a list of books we love for the other person to read this summer. All books the other person has not read yet, of course. While we said ten books to start with, we both ended up giving the other person twelve, so I will list them all here. I do hope to get all twelve books read this summer!

My Summer TBR from Sarah:
** = Already Own

1. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
3. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
4. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
5. White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L Armentrout**
6. Don't Look Back by Jennifer L Armentrout
7. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead**
8. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare**
9. Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
10. The Shadow Society by Marie Rutkoski
11. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
12. Easy by Tammara Webbe**

I look forward to checking off some of these books very soon! What do you guys think of this idea? Anyone else want to create a list of books with me for each other to read? It's a lot of fun! :]

TBR List #AtoZChallenge

Yikes! Look at that to-read list I have going on over at Goodreads. Not only that, but it usually increases every.single.day. I can't help it, though. There are so many great books, and then they are all collected on the website. How could you not have that many on the list? What books are on your TBR list that you can't wait to read?

Top Ten Books On My Spring 2014 TBR List

It's Top Ten Tuesday time! I am linking up for the meme over at The Broke and the Bookish again this week. This has quickly become my favorite weekly meme as I love all of the different prompts that they come up with! This week is all about the books that I have on my Spring TBR list. I never really thought about it, but I suppose we do sometimes choose books based on seasons; you always take lighthearted books to the beach in the summer, right? Well, here are the top ten books I look forward to reading this spring (It was VERY difficult to narrow it down to ten!) Also, don't forget to enter in the giveaway on my post from Monday in order to win an awesome ebook! :]

1. The Break-Up Artist - Philip Siegel
I was SUPER excited when my request for this book was accepted on NetGalley on Sunday. I have seen so many great things about this book and I love the synopsis so much that I crossed my fingers and hoped it would be approved. Yay! I feel like this seems like such an intriguing storyline, and differently like something that would happen these days with all the technology and use of Paypal. I cannot wait to read it!

2. The Impossible Knife of Memory - Laurie Halse Anderson
I have been a fan of Anderson since I read Speak, which has been one of my favorite books for years now. It was so beautifully written, and I could not believe that it took me so long to read another one of her books. I got my hands on Wintergirls when it came out (in hardcover, which I don't do much) and was reminded why I loved her so much. When I came across this one SIGNED at Half Price Books last week I could not turn it down. I really look forward to reading this one very soon. (Spring does begin on Thursday, after all!)

3. The Winner's Curse - Marie Rutkoski
Yup, I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I have heard SO many great things about this book, and I really want to read it. I saw it at Barnes and Noble last week, but I was trying so hard not to buy new books in hardcover as they can be so expensive. I feel like I will have to give in on this one, though. Maybe our library will get it sooner rather than later, but I know that I will more than likely just break down and buy the book. I mean, look at that cover!

4. Golden - Jessi Kirby
I saw this book on someone's Stacking the Shelf or Book Haul post last week, and I completely fell in love with the synopsis. I mean, your typical good girl finally getting into some trouble and trying to figure out the town secrets? I'm really interested in the fact of her finding an old journal that opens up these secrets, too. There is just something about this book that has me completely intrigued, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

5. The Selection - Kiera Cass
This has been on my list for awhile, but I am REALLY going to start reading it this spring. I didn't want to read it too soon before the last book came out (since I'm usually hesitant to start series before all the books are out because the waiting kills me), but I have been wanting to read this one for awhile. Honestly, it's right up my alley. I'm always looking for a good romance, and throw in a love triangle and I am sold. Plus, those covers? Yes please!

6. Matched - Ally Condie
Did someone say love triangle? Yup, it's definitely one that I want to read! Sure, some people get tired of the love triangle, but I don't think that I will ever be that gal. Not to mention, it is a dystopian novel, another thing I love. This book seems like something I will really enjoy. I like the idea of the government trying to control who they're supposed to be with, and then something going wrong. That sounds like good drama to me!

7. Bumped - Megan McCafferty
I first found this book on Goodreads a couple of weeks ago, and I was definitely interested by the concept. I guess that happens with me for a lot of books, I get hooked by the synopsis. That is the point though I suppose, right? So, success! I looked for it at my public library, and they had the second book but not the first, strange. I am going to have to find a way to get my hands on this one though because I am definitely eager to read it.

8. Aberrant - Ruth Silver
I purchased this whole series yesterday when the books were part of the Kindle daily deal for $1.99 a piece. I had my eye on them for awhile, so was thrilled by the price. The covers are gorgeous, so I will probably eventually buy physical copies as well. Another YA Dystopian series? Yes please! It certainly helps that Ruth Silver is awesome and so sweet, it makes me eager to read this series along with any other book she ever writes!

9. For Darkness Shows the Stars - Diana Peterfreund
Honestly, I don't know a whole lot of this book aside from the synopsis and everything on Goodreads, but I am okay with that, too. My librarian at school brought it to me the week before spring break. We had just gotten new books at school, and it was one of the new Lone Star Books, so she thought I would be interested. The cover was enough to intrigue me, and I do look forward to reading it and seeing what it is all about.

10. Delirium - Lauren Oliver
I picked up this one at the library last week when I went during spring break. They had the whole series and I was tempted to just grab them all while they were available, but I was not sure I would have time to get to them all, and didn't want to keep them from other readers until I was ready for them. I have heard really good things about this series though, so I am looking forward to trying out the first book in the series and seeing what I think.

There we have it. I am sure I will read a lot more than this during the spring, but I hope to be able to get to these. What books are on your spring TBR list?

2014 TBR Pile Reading Challenge

I have decided to join in on the TBR Pile Reading Challenge over at Bookish. This challenge gives you the ability to go back to those books that have been on your bookshelves for ages, gathering dust, and finally give them the time in order to read them. I am very excited about this idea as I have plenty of books I have been meaning to go back and read. Here are the guidelines from their blog:

  1. This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2014 - Dec 31, 2014.
  2. Anyone can enter! You don't have to be a blogger, as long as you review the book you've read! (On your blog, Amazon, Random Buzzers or Goodreads/Shelfari!)
  3. Any genre, length or format of book counts, as long as it is a book that's been sitting on your shelf for some time now. Short stories and novellas are OK, too! Only books released in 2013 and earlier! NO  2014 ARCs and 2014 fresh-off-the-press releases allowed!
  4. You can list your books in advance or just put them in a wrap-up post. If you list them, feel free to change them as the mood takes you.
  5. When you sign up in the linky, put the direct link to your post about joining the 2013 TBRPILE Reading Challenge. (If you don't have a blog, post about it on Facebook or Tweet!)
  6. You can move up levels, but no moving down.
  7. Sign-ups will be open until Dec 15, 2014, so feel free to join at any time throughout the year.
  8. On the 25th of each month we will post a wrap-up post, here, on BOOKISH. Every wrap-up will have it's unique theme, a mini-challenge, a giveaway and place for you to link up your reviews from this monthFor each review you link up, you will get one entry in a drawing of one book of choice from Book Depository. It's open to INTERNATIONALS. The giveaway will be open until the next wrap up post goes up! (i.e. the entire month)
  9. If you miss a wrap-up post + giveaway, you can link up your reviews next month. Do not, however, try to link up one review twice - we will be checking ;)
  10. December is a wrap-up for the whole year. All the book reviews you linked up January-November + the ones you'll link up in December will be entered into a GRAND PRIZE giveaway

It's Monday! What are you Reading? [1]

Happy Monday! I have decided to start participating in the It's Monday! What are you Reading? link up over at Book Journey. It seems like it will be fun to start off the week with what I have been reading, and what I intend to read this week.

This week, I will be reading:

1. Branded (Sinners Series #1) by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki
NA - Sci-Fi (Dystopia), Fantasy, Romance
I started reading this book Saturday, and got about thirty percent of it read, staying up until midnight because I could not put it down (I usually go to bed by ten at the latest, so this is a BIG deal). I am reading it on my kindle and enjoying it very much so far! Make sure to stop back by the blog on Thursday to see the promo blitz and new cover for this book.

2. Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer
YA - Sci-Fi (Dystopia), Fantasy, Romance
I began reading this book last week, but things were a bit crazy at work (as often happens when you teach 130 middle school students every day), so I did not have a chance to finish like I had hoped. However, I am half way through and intend to finish within the next couple of days. I am loving this book, and cannot wait to pick up a copy of the next book in the series once I finish. I also convinced one of my middle school girls to check this one out of the library this week.

3. Divergent Thinking: YA Authors on Veronica Roth's Divergent Trilogy
Editor: Leah Wilson, Many YA authors contributed
I received an e-arc of this book through NetGalley, and the publishing date is March 4th. So far, I am really enjoying this book. Different YA authors are contributing their ideas and thoughts on the ideals and themes we see in the Divergent Trilogy (which I am in love with). I'm not sure if a lot of young adults would enjoy this as it talks a lot about psychology and science, but I am enjoying it very much so far. Look out for a review next week.

What are you reading this week?
