Cover Concepts: August 10 - 16

Happy Monday! Welcome to the feature Cover Concepts on my blog. Every Monday I am going to create a post with all of the young adult book covers that are releasing within the week. I will then tell you all what I think about the covers; If I love them, or if I think that they could be better. At the end of the post, I will give you all a chance to vote on your favorite cover of the week. As I pick a lot of my reads based on their covers, this seemed like the perfect feature for me to begin on the blog. Feel free to leave comments with your opinions of the covers as well, and we can discuss them! :]

1. A Blind Spot for Boys by Justina Chen - August 12
Thoughts: Before even bothering to look into this book much on Goodreads, I could tell that it was going to be a contemporary novel. It's pretty obvious with the large, kissy/smiley faces covering the whole book. I can't say I am a fan of the picture or the font. I really hate the different color for "a" and "for." I think this could have been done a lot better, specially since her cover for North of Beautiful is so pretty.

2. The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone by Adele Griffin - August 12
Thoughts: Unlike this first cover this week, this is one I probably would not have guessed is a contemporary. There is something very science fiction about the cover. This is a little disappointing as well, seeing as someone might buy it for the wrong reasons and be disappointed. I do think that there is something interesting about the negative of the photograph, but I don't like the title split up like it is. It makes it seem a bit confusing.

3. Random by Tom Leveen - August 12
Thoughts: Technology has become SO big, that I think we will begin seeing it more and more in books, especially in YA. This book is about cyberbullying, I believe, and I really like the cover for that. I like that you can tell it's a tablet, but the fact has been blurred out. I think that the cover is clean and simple, too, which is nice. It makes me want to pick it up and read it.

4. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins - August 14
Anna and the French Kiss #3
Thoughts: I think that this cover is cute, just like the new covers of the other two books. I do love how well they all go together, too. The skyline in the background is nice, and I love how they all have the same font, but a different color scheme. While this is not my favorite because of the colors, I do still think it's quite cute.

5. Between the Spark and the Burn by April Genevieve Tucholke - August 14
Between #2
Thoughts: Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of these covers. I do appreciate that they match and I can tell that they are a series together, but I'm still not in love with them. I think that the font is too big, and some of the fonts seem a bit cheesy. I am much more impressed with the cover of the first book, though it's still not a favorite.

6. Sister's Fate by Jessica Spotswood - August 14
The Cahill Witch Chronicles #3
Thoughts: I'm a little unsure about how I feel on this one. I really want to like it, but a part of me is still unsure, too. I think that it goes well with the first two books in the series. It's a bit different, but they still have similarities that make it obvious that they are a series. I do like that not all three girl's faces are showing, since that would be too much. I think that it's nice, though it's still not a favorite.

7. Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff - August 14
Thoughts: I am very impressed with this cover. I am really becoming a fan of illustrated covers. I guess maybe I'm just tired of seeing the models all over covers. I think this house is creepy, which is obviously the point, and I love the roots coming out of it like it's a tree. This is a cover that definitely makes me want to read the story and figure out what is going on in the picture.

Cover Concepts: July 20 - 26

Happy Monday! Welcome to the feature Cover Concepts on my blog. Every Monday I am going to create a post with all of the young adult book covers that are releasing within the week. I will then tell you all what I think about the covers; If I love them, or if I think that they could be better. At the end of the post, I will give you all a chance to vote on your favorite cover of the week. As I pick a lot of my reads based on their covers, this seemed like the perfect feature for me to begin on the blog. Feel free to leave comments with your opinions of the covers as well, and we can discuss them! :]

1. Endless (Shadowlands #3) by Kate Brian - July 22
Thoughts: I am actually a pretty big fan of these covers. When it comes to a completed series, I like to go back and look at all of the covers before making my opinion. All of them match perfectly, and while I like the first one the best of the three, I really do like them all. I don't mind the title being broken up, and I think the birds add some interest. I would like to have these books on my shelf.

2. Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz - July 22
Thoughts: I am a huge fan of this author, and while I liked the covers of her other series, I think that the cover of this book makes it much more mysterious. The font of the title is interesting and different, and I do like the colors in the background. This cover is pretty good.

3. Extraction by Stephanie Diaz - July 22
Thoughts: I can't say that I am a big fan of the whole eyeball thing on every cover. I think that they can be done well (like the Shatter Me trilogy, when it's just the eye and it's pretty), but this is not one of those cases. It does not tell me much about the book, and it just doesn't draw my attention at all.

4. One Past Midnight by Jessica Shirvington - July 22
Thoughts: I really, really do not like the color combinations going on here. I don't think that the green and purple go together at all, and I feel like the tagline is over used. I do think that the way the girl's hair is moving is a bit interesting, but that's the only thing that is.

5. Just Like the Movies by Kelly Fiore - July 22
Thoughts: I'd say that this is your typical cutesy contemporary cover. The colors are nice, I suppose, and I do think that the umbrella adds a cute touch to the whole thing. I do like the font of the title, though I am not sure I like the layout of it on the cover. Overall, it could be a lot worse, but it's not too exciting, either.

6. Dissonance by Erica O'Rourke - July 22
Thoughts: Eh, I'm not loving this. It all looks so blurry, and I cannot say that I'm a fan of that look. I also don't like the repetition of everything on the cover. I think that they could have made it look nice with just the girl once. It's clear they're trying to repeat the title at the top too, just really big so it doesn't all fit. I'm not a fan.

Thoughts: I have not read any of this series, but I have heard good things and I am interested. Based on three covers, this isn't my favorite, but it's not my least favorite, either. I love the cover of the second book, but this one takes second place. I like the intensity on the girl's face, and the dress is awesome. I think it's pretty well done.

8. The Fire Wish by Amber Lough - July 22
Thoughts: I really like the look of this cover. It's a bit more simple, which I think can be very nice for some books. The cover gives me an idea about what the book might be about, which will more likely make me want to pick it up and give it a read. I really like the font of the title, too.

9. Uncaged by Michele Cook & John Sandford - July 22
Thoughts: At first look, I was not impressed by this cover. However, then I looked at it more closely and it made me much more curious about the story. Now I see that the different squares are actually video cameras monitoring different parts of a building. I do think that the author's names are too big, though.

10. The Year of Chasing Dreams by Lurlene McDaniel - July 22
Thoughts: BORING. There is nothing about this cover that makes me want to read this book. Nothing at all. I do hope that they consider a redesign. Snore.

11. The Burnouts (Quarantine #3) by Lex Thomas - July 22
Thoughts: I'm not too impressed with this cover, either. In all fairness, it does match the other covers in the series, so that says something. However, I really hate when they put the name of a series bigger than the name of the actual book title on a cover. I don't think that is necessary at all.

12. Like No Other by Una LaMarche - July 24
Thoughts: I like that this cover is illustrated instead of having the typical people posing and having their picture on a book. It's a little bland for me, but at least it is not too much. I do like the colors and I think that they all go well together. It's nicely done, though I do think that it could be more exciting.

Cover Concepts: July 13 - 19

Welcome to a new feature here at my blog! Every Monday (or perhaps every other, depending on the number of releases any given week) I am going to create a post with all of the young adult book covers that are releasing within that week. I will then tell you all what I think about the covers; if I love them, or if I think that they could be better. At the end of the post, I will give you all a chance to vote on your favorite cover of the week. As I pick a lot of my reads based on their covers, this seemed like the perfect feature for me to begin on the blog. Feel free to leave comments with your opinions as well!

1. Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones - July 15
Thoughts: I am actually a big fan of this cover. It definitely has me interested in reading the book and figuring out what is happening with this girl here. I really like the shadow on the I. I think it's interesting and different, and I like that.

2. Hero Complex by Margaux Froley - July 15
Thoughts: This looks so amateur to me, and I just cannot like it at all. I understand it's part of a series that takes place at what I assume is a boarding school, but it's just awful. The picture could have been used in a much better way, and the font/color of the title is just awful. Yeah, this is bad.

3. Dirty Wings by Sarah McCarry - July 15
Thoughts: This cover could have been really nice if they had not added the faces to it. Especially at the odd placement and angles of them. I don't understand why they're not facing the same way, or they were even needed. The red vines would have been pretty on their own.

4. Starbreak by Phoebe North - July 15
Thoughts: I can dig this cover if I just look at it on its own. I like the colors, and I am interested to know what is going on. However, when I compare it to the first cover(s), I'm not thrilled. The first book has had a redesign, but I don't feel that this cover really matches either of them. I don't think it's another redesign, either. Perhaps they didn't realize they don't actually go together...

5. Earthquake by Aprilynne Pike - July 15
Thoughts: Speaking of redesign, this series decided to have one before the series was even complete. It annoys me, too, because the original covers were SO much better than this. They were interesting and shiny, and this is just dull and over done. Nothing about it makes me want to pick it up or have it on my bookshelf.

6. Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally - July 15
Thoughts: I really, really like the idea of this cover. I like that a model is used and I don't hate it, which can be rare. I like the clouds drawn on and I really like the font for the title. However, this is part of a series (I think the characters overlap, and you can read them out of order), and it doesn't match those covers. All of the other ones have grass on them, and this does not have a sign of it. Still, this is a cover I would want on my shelf.

Cover Concepts: July 6 - 12

Welcome to a new feature here at my blog! Every Monday (or perhaps every other, depending on the number of releases any given week) I am going to create a post with all of the young adult book covers that are releasing within that week. I will then tell you all what I think about the covers; if I love them, or if I think that they could be better. At the end of the post, I will give you all a chance to vote on your favorite cover of the week. As I pick a lot of my reads based on their covers, this seemed like the perfect feature for me to begin on the blog. Feel free to leave comments with your opinions as well!

Thoughts: I'm pretty bored by this cover, if I'm being honest. I am not sure how Tarzan is going to translate to a book like this to begin with, but I feel like they could have done much better things with this cover. I do like the color of the title, but everything else is dull. Also, I hate that tagline.

2. The Half Life of Molly Pierce by Katrina Leno - July 8
Thoughts: I am actually not completely sure how I feel about this one. I think that I like it, though I am not sure about the face in the back, either. I really like the colors and the font of the title, so that makes it work for me.

3. Demon Derby by Carrie Harris - July 8
Thoughts: Yeah, I can say for a fact that I don't like this cover at all. The colors aren't working, and I hate the little symbol in the middle. It's not working for me.

4. Embers & Ash (Cold Fury #3) by T.M. Goeglein - July 10
Thoughts: I have not read any of this series, but I did just look up the previous two covers in the series. They do all match, which is very important to me as I like all of the books to look the same on my shelf. I think that this cover works, though. I like the split between the top and the bottom, and the yellow is working.

5. Where Silence Gathers (Some Quiet Place #2) by Kelsey Sutton - July 8
Thoughts: This cover freaks me out quite a bit, if I'm being honest. The body shape of the girl is a bit strange, though it does seem like the book might be a bit dark, so I guess that it might fit. I do like the cover of book one better than this one, though. All the colors are kind of muted and dull.

6. Thirty Sunsets by Christine Hurley Deriso - July 8
Thoughts: I am bored with this cover as well. It seems like something that we see pretty often. I do like how the sun looks in the picture based on the title, but it's not one that I'm dying to have for my shelf.

Thoughts: This is BY FAR, one of my favorite covers of the year so far. I just think that it is absolutely gorgeous and so detailed. The clouds look lovely, and I adore the look of the girl with her dress and the flower headband in her hair. The font is perfect as well. This is a definite win.

8. The Defiant (The Forsaken #3) by Lisa M. Stasse - July 8
Thoughts: Wow. This cover is pretty amazing, I must admit. I am getting tired of seeing just regular 'ol faces on covers, so this definitely brings something new and different to the mix. It matches the other covers in the series, but I think that it is the best so far. The colors go together very well.

9. Through to You by Lauren Barnholdt - July 8
Thoughts: Well, it clearly tells the reader that it's a contemporary read. Other than that, I'm not too intrigued.

10. Four: A Divergent Story Collection by Veronica Roth - July 8
Thoughts: I am SO excited about this book coming out tomorrow! I absolutely love this cover, though I might be a bit biased since I love the series so much. I am upset that they are all combined in one book, and therefor I do not get to have all of the other covers as I love all of the novella covers. Oh well.

11. Idols (Icons #2) by Margaret Stohl - July 8
Thoughts: I think that this cover is pretty good (aside from that annoying sticker at the bottom. Hopefully they don't all have that). I have book one in the series, and this book does match it, but I think the colors are a bit more bland here. I do like the water going through the title, though.

12. Midnight Thief (Midnight Thief #1) by Livia Blackburne - July 8
Thoughts: I am very excited about this book releasing tomorrow as well. I have read SO many good reviews about this book. While I am a little bored by this cover, I do think that it is nice enough. It could certainly be a lot worse, at least.
