Top Ten Classics I Want To Read
It's Top Ten Tuesday time! I am linking up for the meme over at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's prompt is all about classics. While I read quite a few in middle school and high school, I do know that there are a ton that I still need to read. While I definitely have some favorites, I decided to make a list of the Top Ten Classics I Want To Read instead.
1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - my friend Brenda has always bought and gifted me a copy of this book (with a gorgeous cover from Target, of all places). It is probably the first one I will read when I decide to pick up a classic.
2. Any Jane Austen book - Yeah, this might be cheating, but if I listed them all individually, then that would be my top ten books. I have not read anything by Jane Austen, and I know that's pretty sad. I'll get on it eventually.
3. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - Another one that I probably should have read by now. Honestly, any time I think of this book, I think of the episode of Friends were they talk about this book.
4. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde - I have read bits and pieces of this classic from high school when we were given shorter excerpts to read for one reason or another. I remember enjoying those parts, so it would be nice to read the whole thing.
5. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens - Why not?
6. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo - I have been told a countless number of times that I really need to read this one, and apparently see the movie as well. I don't know too much about it, but I suppose that I will eventually get to it as well.
7. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/ Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll - I have seen Alice in Wonderland, and I feel like I have read a children's version of the story, but I have never read the original classic. I am very interested in doing so.
8. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - I have heard really good things, so might as well give it a shot.
9. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - How have I not read this one yet?
10. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess - I think that a lot of people read this book in school, but I never had to. Might as well pick it up on my own, right?
Nice! Loved Alice in Wonderland! Forgot to think of fairytales! Of course then I'd have to list individual fairytales and that might take awhile! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

Would certainly recommend Jane Austen (in particular, I'd suggest starting with either Pride & Prejudice or Northanger Abbey), Jane Eyre, and Little Women! All excellent classics.
ReplyDeleteI wrote my list on Classics I want to read and a fair number of these appeared! I want to read Jane Eyre, The Picture Of Dorian Gray and Great Expectations as well! I love your other choices too :)

That’s a great list! You should really get around to reading The Picture of Dorian Gray. Because it’s a rather short book, you’d probably be able to read it in a day, and it contains lots of thoughtful, interesting and highly quotable passages!
ReplyDeleteJane Eyre is my favourite book ever, Jane Austen is my favourite non-living writer and Brave New World is my favourite classic dystopia! I didn’t enjoy Alice that much, but all the other books on your list are ones that I also wish to read in the future.
I’m going to read some Steinbeck this month, as I haven’t read any of his works in school and I really want to check him out.
