Cover Concepts: July 13 - 19

Welcome to a new feature here at my blog! Every Monday (or perhaps every other, depending on the number of releases any given week) I am going to create a post with all of the young adult book covers that are releasing within that week. I will then tell you all what I think about the covers; if I love them, or if I think that they could be better. At the end of the post, I will give you all a chance to vote on your favorite cover of the week. As I pick a lot of my reads based on their covers, this seemed like the perfect feature for me to begin on the blog. Feel free to leave comments with your opinions as well!

1. Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones - July 15
Thoughts: I am actually a big fan of this cover. It definitely has me interested in reading the book and figuring out what is happening with this girl here. I really like the shadow on the I. I think it's interesting and different, and I like that.

2. Hero Complex by Margaux Froley - July 15
Thoughts: This looks so amateur to me, and I just cannot like it at all. I understand it's part of a series that takes place at what I assume is a boarding school, but it's just awful. The picture could have been used in a much better way, and the font/color of the title is just awful. Yeah, this is bad.

3. Dirty Wings by Sarah McCarry - July 15
Thoughts: This cover could have been really nice if they had not added the faces to it. Especially at the odd placement and angles of them. I don't understand why they're not facing the same way, or they were even needed. The red vines would have been pretty on their own.

4. Starbreak by Phoebe North - July 15
Thoughts: I can dig this cover if I just look at it on its own. I like the colors, and I am interested to know what is going on. However, when I compare it to the first cover(s), I'm not thrilled. The first book has had a redesign, but I don't feel that this cover really matches either of them. I don't think it's another redesign, either. Perhaps they didn't realize they don't actually go together...

5. Earthquake by Aprilynne Pike - July 15
Thoughts: Speaking of redesign, this series decided to have one before the series was even complete. It annoys me, too, because the original covers were SO much better than this. They were interesting and shiny, and this is just dull and over done. Nothing about it makes me want to pick it up or have it on my bookshelf.

6. Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally - July 15
Thoughts: I really, really like the idea of this cover. I like that a model is used and I don't hate it, which can be rare. I like the clouds drawn on and I really like the font for the title. However, this is part of a series (I think the characters overlap, and you can read them out of order), and it doesn't match those covers. All of the other ones have grass on them, and this does not have a sign of it. Still, this is a cover I would want on my shelf.

POLL: There we have it, those are the majority of the young adult books releasing this week. Which cover is your favorite for the week? Make sure to vote below!

  1. I think the Dirty Wings cover is so pretty. The other ones aren't bad but I don't know if they'd make me pick the book up in a bookstore.
